Parc Floral de La Source
About
The Parc Floral de La Source, located in the heart of Orléans’s 45th arrondissement, is a 35‑hectare urban oasis that blends horticulture, art, and nature. Its centerpiece is the source of the Loiret River, where a gentle spring feeds an underground river that surfaces in the park’s “Bouillon.” The park’s history dates back to the 6th century, when the land was granted to the Abbey of Micy, and it has evolved through centuries of royal patronage, noble estates, and industrial development. Today, visitors wander through a tapestry of themed gardens – from the Iris Garden with its nine hundred varieties, to the Roseraie du Miroir, the Tropical Butterfly House, and the rustic “Picnic” areas. New attractions include the “Petit Train,” a heritage rail that circles the grounds, as well as the recently renovated Chandelier‑roofed “Serre‑Restaurant” and the artistic “La Chapelle” transformed by glass‑laminated vitral installations. The park also hosts seasonal events such as the annual Salon des Arts du Jardin, musical festivals, and family‑friendly activities. With its blend of heritage, contemporary art, and botanical wonder, the park offers something for every season: from leisurely strolls and wildlife spotting in spring and autumn, to indoor terraces and light‑shows at night in summer. The park is accessible by public transport or car, with free parking, wheelchair‑accessible pathways, and free facilities for children under six. Admission is modest – €6 for adults, €4 for children aged six to sixteen, and free for children under six – making it a budget‑friendly destination for families, couples, and garden enthusiasts alike.
