Bateaux Mouches
About
Bateaux Mouches are the iconic, open‑top, glass‑covered excursion boats that glide along Paris’s Seine. Operated by “Compagnie des Bateaux Mouches”, founded in 1917, they are the oldest and most recognised river‑tour operator in the city. A typical cruise lasts about an hour, with a fleet of vessels that can accommodate up to 1,000 passengers each and offer live or recorded commentary. The line also runs lunch and dinner cruises – featuring accordion music, French chansons, live violin and piano, as well as menus ranging from a casual “Excellence” to a more sophisticated “Prestige” option. The river route takes visitors past some of Paris’s most famous landmarks. From the deck you can see the Eiffel Tower, Notre‑Dame Cathedral, Pointe Neuf, the Louvre, the Orsay Museum, Les Invalides, the Alexandre III Bridge, the Pont Alexandre III, and the Pont des Arts, all illuminated beautifully at night. Beyond the sightseeing appeal, Bateaux Mouches have played a historic role, ferrying athletes during the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony and remaining a cultural staple of Parisian leisure since the post‑war boom. The cruises combine history, scenery, music and cuisine into a memorable short‑stay experience on the Seine.
