Eglise Saint Germain Des Pres
About
Saint‑Germain‑des‑Prés is one of Paris’s oldest churches, founded in the 6th century by Childebert I and later rebuilt in Gothic style. The nave is dominated by a magnificent interior that showcases colourful frescoes by the 19th‑century artist Hippolyte Flandrin, flying buttresses and a striking marble floor. The church remains a living parish today, offering regular Masses, Sunday services in Latin, and a wide range of community events such as catechism, choir rehearsals, and a youth programme. On top of its historical significance, the church welcomes visitors with free guided tours that explore its art, architecture, and centuries of religious life. The English‑speaking guide team is available for a limited number of groups, and a tourist information leaflet is available at the entrance.
