Le Bois de Boulogne
About
Le Bois de Boulogne is Paris’s most expansive green space, covering 8 450 ha of woodland, meadows, lakes and wetlands. Originally a royal hunting preserve from the 19th century, it now offers a tapestry of historic châteaus, landscaped gardens, and four tranquil lakes – the Upper and Lower Lac, the Reservoir Pond and the Lac Inferieur – joined by cascading waterfalls that create a natural amphitheatre. Beyond its scenic beauty, the park supports a vibrant ecosystem with rare plant and animal species. Trails are marked with ecological information panels, and visitors can explore the Oak Forest, bogs and wooded glades. The park is especially welcoming to dog owners, with dedicated walking corridors, temporary dog‑ing services, and designated pet‑friendly spaces that are open Monday‑Friday (up to 4 p.m.) and closed on weekends. Le Bois de Boulogne is also a cultural hub, hosting summer concerts, sports tournaments, and the annual Parisian book festival. It houses the iconic Stade Roland Garros tennis arena, the historic Château de Bagatelle and the Jardin d’Acclimatation amusement‑garden. A visit to the park can easily fill a full day, offering a mix of natural wonder, recreational activities, and a touch of Parisian history that is both inspiring and relaxing for solo travelers, families, dog‑owners, and sports enthusiasts alike.
