World Place restaurant/club has had several incarnations – Man Ray, Mandala Ray – each one groovier than the last. With owners Sean Penn, Johnny Depp and John Malkovitch behind it all, the beautiful people factor is reliably high. The new décor features fabulous chandeliers, moody purple lighting, mezzanine and circular mezzanine as well as a dance floor if you fancy a boogie. Where there was once Asian/fusion cuisine, head chef Anixeto Amigorena now features flavours of the Mediterranean in dishes like tuna steak with chorizo butter, veal saltimbocca with gorgonzola polenta. The drinks and wine list are both extremely international. Corporate and private events are especially well catered-for at World Place, where the main dining room or one of the two mezzanines may be made private for banquets, presentations and meetings.
