Chateau Royal de Collioure
About
The Royal Château de Collioure is an 800‑year‑old fortress perched on the Mediterranean coast overlooking the town of Collioure. Built in the early Middle Ages to guard the village and its harbour, the stone walls later hosted Catalan kings and played a role in the Franco‑Spanish wars. Classed as a historic monument since 1922, it is now managed by the Department of Pyrénées‑Orientales and offers free entry for visitors, with guided tours available at no extra charge. Visitors can stroll through the fortified ramparts, explore the courtyard and corridors, and enjoy regular concerts, exhibitions and cultural events held within the historic walls. The castle also provides accessible paths and has been awarded the State Tourism and Handicap mark, ensuring a welcoming experience for all guests.
