Savonnerie Marius Fabre
About
The Savonnerie Marius Fabre, founded in 1900 in Salon‑de‑Provence, is a living heritage factory that still operates the traditional Marseille soap‑making process using oak cauldrons and vegetable oils. Visitors can wander through the historic workshops, watch soap being produced in real time, and step into the adjacent Marseille Soap Museum, which showcases the history and culture of this iconic product. Guided tours run every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and every Wednesday and Saturday at 2:30 p.m.; during school holidays the tours are available every day. The factory also offers free self‑guided visits for all ages, while a group guided tour costs €15. The schedule adapts to seasons: from 1 April to 30 September the shop opens Monday‑Saturday 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.–6:30 p.m., and from 1 October to 31 March it remains open until 5:30 p.m. Tours are booked through the website, and booking is highly recommended though not compulsory. Phones a simple call to 04 90 53 34 35 for any enquiries. The factory is a must‑visit for families, history lovers, and craft enthusiasts, offering an authentic experience that blends tradition, heritage, and culinary‑centric soap production.
