La grotte de Maxange
About
La Grotte de Maxange is one of the most beautiful stalactite and stalagmite caves in France, located in the heart of the Périgord Noir in Le Buisson‑de‑Cadouin, Dordogne. Discovered in 2000 by quarryman Angel Caballero, the cave showcases an extraordinary array of "unconventional" concretions that form intricate patterns and crystal‑like formations. The guided tour lasts about 45 minutes, guiding visitors through illuminated chambers to learn about geological processes and the cave's history. The site offers accessibility features for visitors with mobility or hearing impairments, such as an induction loop, paper guides, and a tactile guide with an HF mic. For families and nature lovers, the "Casse ta Géode" workshop (May to October) provides a fun, hands‑on activity where guests can break a geode and observe the crystals inside.
