The Château and fortifications formed one of the largest defensive structures ever constructed in France. Spreading over 14 hectares, Coucy originally included 33 towers and ramparts stretching over two kilometres. The four main corner towers were similar in size to the central keep of the royal palace of the Louvre while the keep at Coucy was the largest castle tower in Christendom. The ruins remain an impressive and evocative reminder of Coucy’s grandeur despite being badly damaged in the First World War. Open: > 2nd May to 4th September: from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. > 5th September to 30th April: from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Last admission 45 minutes before closing time. Closed: > 1st January, 1st May and 25th December.
