Chateau Gaillard
About
Château Gaillard, located in the heart of Amboise, is a stunning example of early Italian Renaissance architecture blended with French heritage. The castle’s history is closely tied to King Charles VIII, who, enamoured by Italy’s splendors, invited the renowned monk gardener Dom Pacello de Mercoliano to create elaborate gardens and an elegant palace in 1496. Today the château’s 15 hectares of gardens, including the famed Jardins du Roy and the lush park, offer visitors a picturesque stroll through centuries of horticultural artistry. Visitors can admire the iconic orange trees—the first in France—tended by Pacello, as well as historic stone bridges, fountains, and a network of grotto caves. The castle remains open year‑round from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, providing ample time for families, history enthusiasts, and garden lovers alike to explore this
