Merkur Mountain
About
Merkur Mountain, rising 668 m above sea level, offers visitors a blend of natural beauty, historic charm, and modern conveniences. The summit is reached by the historic Merkur Funicular Railway, a 1,200 m long funicular that climbs steep gradients and provides panoramic views of Baden‑Baden, the Black Forest, and even Strasbourg on clear days. At the top station a restaurant, sunbathing lawn, barbecue area and a giant slide playground cater to families and casual hikers alike. Historical highlights include the 19th‑century observation tower and the Bronze‑Age Roman votive stone dedicated to Mercury. In addition to the scenic walks along the Panorama Way, visitors can explore a nearby wildlife park and engage in paragliding launches that take advantage of the mountain’s open slopes.
