About
The New Residence (Neues Residenz) is a magnificent Baroque complex perched on the Domberg, once the seat of Bamberg’s prince-bishops. Today it houses a blend of cultural treasures: the Bamberg State Library, the Imperial Hall painted by Melchior Steidl, the historic princely apartments, and the State Gallery showcasing Middle‑Age and Baroque masterpieces. A tranquil rose‑garden with a café crowns the courtyard, offering sweeping views of the old town. Renovations currently limit access to the Electoral Apartment and the Old German Gallery, but the remaining rooms still captivate visitors with stucco ceilings, period furnishings and richly coloured rugs.
