Designpanoptikum
About
The Designpanoptikum is a surrealist museum dedicated to industrial objects, situated in the historic Nikolaiviertel district of Berlin. Founded by designer and curator Vlad Korneev, the museum showcases a vast collection of utilitarian artefacts—including film projectors, an iron lung, an ejection seat, and a range of medical and sporting equipment—arranged in imaginative, walk‑through installations that invite visitors to touch and contemplate each piece. Originally opened as a shop‑museum in 2010 at Torstraße 201, the exhibition moved to its current, larger space at Poststraße 7 in 2017, where it has remained a unique cultural destination in Berlin’s Mitte borough. The layout deliberately omits explanatory plaques, encouraging guests to experience the objects firsthand and devise their own stories. Among its highlights is the integrated photo gallery, the Lichtbildpanoptikum, where Korneev’s own images capture the surreal environment in striking detail. Together, the exhibition’s playful juxtaposition of the ordinary and the extraordinary offers a thought‑provoking exploration of technology, design, and everyday curiosity.
