About

The Holocaust Memorial – Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe – stands in the heart of Berlin’s Mitte district on the site of the former Berlin Wall. Designed by architect Peter Eisenman, the memorial is a sweeping field of 2,711 concrete stelae of varying heights that visitors can walk through from all sides. Beneath the iconic field lies the underground Information Centre, a permanent exhibition that brings the history of the Holocaust to life through four themed rooms – the Room of Dimensions, the Room of Families, the Room of Names and the Room of Sites – each offering photographs, diaries, letters and personal testimonies. Admission to both the Field of Stelae and the Information Centre is free, but donations are welcomed to support ongoing maintenance and educational programs. The memorial welcomes visitors year‑round and is fully accessible, with dedicated pathways, elevators and audio guides available in multiple languages. The site is a place of quiet remembrance and reflection. Guided free tours are offered on the first Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. in English, and the third Sunday in German. In addition, the foundation offers group tours, listening tours and audio guides for those interested in a deeper exploration. The memorial serves as a powerful educational resource for families, history enthusiasts and solo travelers alike, inviting each visitor to confront the tragedy and bear witness to the memory of six million Jews murdered during the Third Reich. Note: The Information Centre is temporarily closed for renovation from 12 January to the end of April 2026, but guided tours and educational programmes remain available during this period.
