Procession of Princes
About
The Fürstenzug, also known as the Procession of Princes, is the world’s largest porcelain mural located on the exterior wall of the Stallhof at Augustusstraße in Dresden’s Castle complex. Created by Wilhelm Walther between 1871 and 1876 and transferred onto about 23 000 Meissen porcelain tiles from 1904 to 1907, the 102‑metre (335‑ft) long façade depicts 35 Saxon margraves, electors, dukes and kings spanning nearly a millennium. After surviving the 1945 bombing and undergoing a comprehensive restoration in 1978‑1979, the mural remains a striking testament to Saxon heritage and Meissen porcelain craftsmanship, drawing visitors from around the world. The mural is a major highlight of Dresden’s cultural landscape, offering insight into the region’s dynastic history and artistic traditions. Its vast scale and vivid detail make it a must-see for art lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Visitors typically spend about 45 minutes strolling along the length of the mural, taking in the figures and the surrounding historic buildings.
