Schloss Linderhof
About
Schloss Linderhof, the smallest of King Ludwig II’s masterpieces, sits in the alpine village of Ettal and blends Rococo splendor with 19th‑century technological marvels. Visitors can stroll through a series of thematically decorated rooms – the Hall of Mirrors, the Grand Musical Pavilion with its marble staircase, the intimate dining room with a hidden platform, and the Gallery – each telling a different facet of the king’s artistic vision. The surrounding gardens, designed by Court Garden Director Carl von Effner, combine formal parterres with a natural landscape, crowned by the artificial Venus Grotto that famously simulates a blue volcano. Guided tours, available throughout the year except winter closures, offer a unique glimpse into the life and legacy of Bavaria’s “fair‑tale” monarch.
