About
The Wasserkunst Elbinsel Kaltehofe is the open slow sand filtration plant of the former waterworks Kaltehofe. The historical site with a total of 22 filter basins supplied Hamburg from 1893 till 1990 with clean and pathogenfree drinking water. Today the plant is listed as an industrial monument that also spots an impressive biodiversity as nature reconquered the area after the closure of the water works.
