About

The Heidelberg Bridge Monkey (German: Brückenaffe) is a beloved historic landmark perched atop Heidelberg’s iconic Old Bridge. Originating in the 15th century, the original stone statue once stood in the bridge’s tower; it was destroyed in the Nine Years’ War, only to be faithfully reborn in bronze in 1979 by sculptor Gernot Rumpf. Today the bronze statue is a free, interactive attraction where visitors can touch the sign of the horns or the mirror for good luck, making it a must‑see spot for locals and tourists alike.
