Veste Oberhaus is a magnificent, 800‑year‑old hilltop castle and museum complex perched above the city of Passau in Bavaria, Germany. The fortress, which covers 65 000 m², offers visitors a vivid journey through medieval life and architecture, with a mix of original fortifications, a richly frescoed St. George’s Chapel, an observation tower, and the iconic Three‑Rivers Viewpoint overlooking the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz. Inside, the houses house permanent exhibitions on the history of Passau, the medieval castle, and the surrounding region, along with rotating special shows, such as the “Fascination Mid‑Age – Worldly Life” exhibit that lets guests experience the everyday reality of life on a castle. The museum also includes a youth hostel, an observatory and the restaurant “Das Oberhaus”.
