About
The Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier, situated on Weimarer Allee 1 in Trier, is the region’s most prominent archaeological museum. Founded in 1877, its collections span from the Stone Age through the Roman, medieval, and Baroque periods, with a special focus on the ancient city of Augusta Treverorum. Visitors are treated to an impressive array of Roman mosaics, sculptures and frescoes, a detailed scale model of ancient Trier, and the world’s largest German Roman coin hoard discovered in 1993. The museum’s permanent exhibition is complemented by temporary displays that often highlight its most prized Roman artifacts, while its medieval and Baroque sections showcase the artistic heritage of the Rhineland.
