Die Nerobergbahn
About
The Nerobergbahn, a historic funicular railway in Wiesbaden, offers visitors a unique, water‑ballast‑powered journey up the Neroberg hill. Since its opening in 1888, the line has been a beloved attraction, providing a swift 3½‑minute ascent that rewards travelers with panoramic views of the city, the Rhine valley, and the surrounding Taunus hills. The railway’s distinctive mechanism, where the downhill car is filled with up to 7,000 litres of water to pull the uphill car, showcases engineering heritage and adds to the charm for rail enthusiasts. Beyond the ride, the Neroberg area hosts the Neroberg Temple, a Russian Orthodox church, and the old water reservoir, while nearby attractions such as the Biebricher Schloss and the Opelbad offer additional sightseeing and recreational options. The line runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., operating on a 15‑minute interval schedule after the winter break. Dogs are welcome free of charge, and the station welcomes families, couples, history enthusiasts, and solo travelers seeking a scenic escape from the urban bustle.
