Drapano Bridge (De Bosset)
About
De Bosset Bridge, also known as Drapano Bridge, is a stone marvel stretching 689.9 metres across the bay of Argostoli in Kefalonia. Built in 1813 by Swiss‑born architect Charles Philippe de Bosset, the bridge links the northern waterfront with the town’s historic centre and is the longest stone bridge spanning water in Greece. The structure features 16 low stone arches and a charming obelisk monument that pays homage to the British patronage of the Ionian Islands. After damage from the 1953 earthquake, the bridge underwent a meticulous restoration from 2011‑2013, preserving its original character while adding modern safety features. Today, the bridge serves as a pedestrian promenade offering sweeping views of the turquoise sea, the surrounding Ionian coastline, and the town’s bustling harbour.
