Attiko Metro S.A.
About
The Athens Metro, operated by Attiko Metro S.A., is the backbone of public transport in Greece’s capital. With three colour‑coded lines—Red (Line 2), Blue (Line 3) and Green (Line 1)—the network spans roughly 70 km and serves 66 underground and overground stations, including the airport, Piraeus and key archaeological sites. Opened in phases from 1869 to 2011, it now offers fast, reliable, and accessible service for about one million passengers a day. The system integrates seamlessly with buses, trams and the suburban railway, and uses a prepaid fare structure (a single‑ride ticket €9) that is free for children under six. The journey from the Port of Piraeus to the International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” takes just 55 minutes. With ongoing expansions—Line 4, further extensions to the airport and southern suburbs—the network promises even more connectivity in the coming years.
