Badminton Theater
About
Badminton Theater: from arena to proscenium theater - the sole venue of the 2004 Olympic Games to be viably transformed. Badminton Theater, located in the park of the municipality of Goudi, Athens, originally built to host the badminton tournaments of the 2004 Olympic Games was re-opened in 2007 after a tremendous renovation to become one of the largest state-of-the-art theatrical venues in the broader region of the Southeast Mediterranean. Situated on the edge of the center of Athens in park below Imitos Mountain, the original industrial facade is the only remnant of the 2004 use. The inside of the building was completely transformed by a group of people with extensive experience in theatrical arts and cultural events and hosts particularly demanding productions acclaimed for aesthetic values and worldwide recognition. Badminton Theater, with its vast repertoire of both foreign and Greek productions, ranging from theatrical plays to musicals to concerts, boasts a record of over 1,500 performances since it's opening in 2007, has hosted over 4,500 artists from around the world and has been visited by more than 2,000,000 spectators! It is a focal stop for major international touring companies as well as the center of award winning Greek original productions.
