Hellenic Parliament
About
The former Old Parliament House (Greek: Παλαιά Βουλή), situated on Stadiou Street in central Athens, is an iconic landmark that blends architectural grandeur with a storied past. Built between 1858 and 1875 in a classic Neoclassical style, the building served as the seat of the Hellenic Parliament for five decades before the legislature moved to its current Palace in 1935. Today it houses the National Historical Museum of Greece, preserving and displaying artifacts, documents and artworks that chronicle the country’s history from ancient times through the modern era. Visitors can wander through galleries that depict pivotal events—such as the Greek Revolution, the proclamation of the republic, and the rise of contemporary Greek culture—while the grand assembly hall, which once echoed the debates of parliament, remains a striking reminder of Greece’s democratic heritage.
