Panathenaic Stadium
About
The Panathenaic Stadium, also known as the Kallimarmaro, is a breathtaking white marble monument that served as the venue for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Nestled in the heart of Athens, it offers visitors a unique blend of ancient heritage and modern sports culture. The observation of the original marble track, the vaulted stoa, and the surrounding archaeological elements transports visitors back to the glory of classical Greece. Today, the stadium welcomes guests from 8 am to 7 pm every day, with slightly earlier closing hours (5 pm) in winter months (November to February). Tickets can be purchased in cash or by card at the ticket desk; the price is €12 for general admission, €6 for reduced admission, and €1.50 for toilet use. A free entrance is granted to children under six, disabled visitors, and their escorts, as well as students presenting valid ID. All tickets also include access to the on‑site museum. Guests receive an automatic acoustics guide available in 11 languages, lasting 30 minutes, which is included with full and reduced admission. To avoid crowds, the best times to visit are in the early morning or late afternoon during the summer, when temperatures are cooler. The stadium also offers a guided donation to support its conservation and educational programs, and nearby canteens serve coffee and snacks from 8 am to 7 pm. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a sports fan, or simply seeking a stroll through one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world, the Panathenaic Stadium delivers an unforgettable experience.
