It was at the wonderful sandy beach of Stavros, with its cool, clear water, that many of the scenes of the internationally acclaimed film Zorba the Greek were filmed, including the famous syrtaki dance, with Antony Quinn and Alan Bates. Though more than 50 years have passed since then and Stavros has grown, the scene is recognizably the same, unspoiled by mass tourism. At the same time Artemis Village is close to all the requisite modern facilities: the International Airport is just minutes away by car and the city of Chania itself less than half an hour. A fleet of modern buses conveys visitors to tourist sites all over the island.
