Chrissi Island
About
Chrissi Island, a serene gem 8 nautical miles south of Ierapetra in Crete, offers visitors an unforgettable escape into nature. The island’s largest cedar forest, one of Europe’s oldest, fills the landscape with a calm, fragrant atmosphere while golden sands and crystal‑clear waters line its shore. Boat departures from Ierapetra and Makrigialos operate daily between mid‑May and late October, each ride lasting about an hour. Upon arrival visitors can explore the island’s natural attractions, including the ancient chapel of Saint Nicholas, a lighthouse, a small bar and tavern, and numerous secluded coves perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Though the island has no entrance fee, visitors are advised to bring food, water and sun protection, as fresh supplies are scarce.
