Lake Plastira
About
Lake Plastira, also known as the Tavropos Reservoir, is an artificial glacial lake nestled high in the mountains of Karditsa, Greece. Created in the 1960s to supply water to the city of Karditsa and generate hydroelectric power, the lake has become a beloved destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. With a surface area of 24 km² and a maximum depth of 60 meters, Lake Plastira stands at an altitude of 792 meters, offering spectacular alpine scenery that changes with each season. Visitors can wander along the lake shore, rent kayaks or pedal boats, and explore the many footpaths that circle the water. The surrounding pine-covered slopes provide tranquil hiking routes, while the lake’s calm waters are perfect for fishing and swimming during the warmer months. Local villages such as Krioneri and Kastanochora offer traditional Greek hospitality, making a day trip or an overnight stay a memorable experience.
