Archaeological Museum of Kissamos
About
The Archaeological Museum of Kissamos is administratively under the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania and is housed in the old Venetian-Turkish Governor's Building within the castle of Kastelli Kissamos. The museum’s exhibition is spread across the ground floor and the upper floor of the building, offering a chronological overview of the history of the wider Kissamos area from the prehistoric era to the late antiquity. Special emphasis is placed on the Roman city of Kissamos, to which the upper floor is dedicated. The exhibits are presented in chronological order and thematic units, supported by visual materials, while an electronic presentation is available with research and documentation on the most destructive earthquake of antiquity, in 365 AD, which struck Crete and destroyed Kissamos.
