Nafpaktos Old Port
About
Nafpaktos Old Port is the historical heart of the town, perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Gulf of Corinth. Visitors wander through narrow cobbled streets lined with 16‑century Venetian merchant houses and vaulted arcades, culminating at the imposing fortification walls that once defended the harbour against Ottoman invaders. The port is home to the statue of Miguel de Cervantes, whose funeral procession in 1571 was halted by the Battle of Lepanto, and to the rich collection of maritime artefacts housed in the nearby Botsaris Tower Museum. A leisurely stroll offers sweeping views of the marina, the dragon‑shaped cathedra of the Fethiye Mosque, and the colourful houses that form the old town’s doubles. For families and history enthusiasts alike, the Old Port combines charming seaside walks, authentic Greek hospitality, and tangible links to the region’s multifaceted past.
