Rhodes Observatory
About
The Rhodes Observatory invites stargazers into its twilight world, offering expertly guided night observation sessions from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Each evening you can peer through powerful telescopes at the Moon, planets, and distant galaxies, while a 45‑minute session is carefully scheduled to maximize the sky’s bounty. Solar enthusiasts can arrange special daytime sessions that safely reveal the sun’s dynamic activity through protective filters. Adventurous visitors climb a twelve‑step staircase to reach the observatory’s heart, an experience that sets a memorable tone for the visit. A curated Star Garden welcomes guests outdoors, featuring a living sundial and other interactive astronomical exhibits. Children aged seven and above are welcomed, but the observatory is not wheelchair accessible. Visitors are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled session. Before you go, book online because reservations are essential; the booking window opens one month in advance and closes one day before the observation date. There’s a flexible policy: if clouds or heavy winds prevent telescope use, a complimentary astronomy seminar will be offered instead. The observatory thrives on astrophourism, combining science, relaxation, and a close encounter with the night sky. Plan your visit in spring or autumn for clearer skies, though the weather can be unpredictable at any time of year.
