Akrogiali Taverna Front Beach
About
Akrogiali Taverna is a historic seaside restaurant perched just five metres from the crystal‑clear waters of Kato Zakros. Built in 1898 and originally called Maria, it has been lovingly restored by owners Nikos Perakis and his wife Tania and continues to serve authentic Cretan and Greek cuisine made from locally‑grown olive oil, seasonal vegetables, and fresh fish caught daily by local captains. Guests can start their day early with a light breakfast or coffee, enjoy refreshing juices and cold beer in the afternoons, and linger into the night for ice‑cream, dinner, and live traditional music that keeps dancers moving until dawn. The taverna’s relaxed atmosphere, free Wi‑Fi, and welcoming staff who speak multiple languages make it a popular spot for families, couples, and food lovers alike.
