About

MOMus - Thessaloniki Museum of Photography was founded in 1998 and its mission is to collect, study and present photographic works and archives, Greek and international, as well as to research the photographic medium, and disseminate this knowledge to the public through educational activities. Its archives and collection include approximately 90,000 photographic objects of the 1890-2015 period, while it organizes the Thessaloniki PhotoBiennale festival. Since November of 2018, four museums in Thessaloniki (Museum of Modern Art-Costakis Collection, Museum of Contemporary Art-Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and State Museum of Contemporary Art Collections, Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, Experimental Center for the Arts) and one in Athens (Museum Alex Mylona) joined forces, forming Metropolitan Organisation of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki (MOMus) the largest supervised institution of the Ministry of Culture and Sports for contemporary art in the country.
