About

With its 170 years history the Fiumei Road Cemetery has by now become a cultic place just like Père-Lachaise in Paris. However, instead of the graves of Molière, Chopin and Jim Morrison, here you can see those of Ady, Jókai, Arany, Kossuth, Erkel, Faludy, Jancsó and Imre Kertész. Besides being the resting place of the prominent personalities of the Hungarian nation since 1849, the cemetery preserves the imprints of different historical eras. You will find the largest number of important personalities of the Hungarian history and culture buried here. Most of the tombs have historic value since they are works of reputable architects and sculptors. The grave park, that resembles an arboretum lies on 56 hectares, is also known for its rich flora and fauna. The unique graveyard has been under the management of the National Heritage Institute since 2016.
