Little Princess Statue
About
The Little Princess Statue – locally known as Kiskirálylány – stands proudly on the Danube promenade in Budapest. Created by renowned Hungarian sculptor László Marton, the bronze sculpture captures a tiny girl in a princess costume, symbolizing innocence and the city’s spirit. Born in 1972, the original modest 50‑cm statuette was carved from the memory of Marton’s eldest daughter, Évi, who loved playing princess. The artist requested the statue for the capital, and it quickly became a beloved landmark. The statue’s playful pose invites passer‑by to pause and smile. It has also inspired replicas around the world – a copy stands in Japan’s Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space and another in Tapolca, Marton’s hometown. Visitors can enjoy the statue freely, without admission fees, making it a must‑visit point along the Danube.
