About

The former home of Rózsi Walter and her family, a residence built according to the designs of József Fischer and Eszter Pécsi, is a unique architectural monument of Budapest and at the same time is the only Modern villa that can be visited by the public in Hungary. The Rózsi Walter Villa is open to visitors as the permanent exhibition space of the Hungarian Museum of Architecture and Monument Protection Documentation Center. The house was built for Rózsi Walter (1899–1974), a celebrated opera singer between the two world wars. The architect József Fischer (1901–1995) designed a home set on pillars with a flat roof and roof terrace, elements that reflect the principles of Modern architecture formulated by Le Corbusier. The villa has two exhibtions: Modern Houses in Hungary 1928–1945. Histories on the Lane - A Pictorial History of Városligeti Fasor Lane and the Rózsi Walter Villa
