Weingut Zantho
About
ZANTHO is one of the most popular wineries in Austria and stands for elegant and authentic wines made from indigenous grape varieties in the Seewinkel area in Burgenland. Founded in 2002, as a joint-venture between renowned winemakers Josef Umathum and Domaine Andau, the winery works today on 70 hectares of vineyards in and around the village of Andau. Zweigelt, Sankt Laurent, Blaufränkisch, and Grüner Veltliner are the main grape varieties planted, and the focus lies on increased biodiversity in the vineyards. The winery is in conversion to certified organic farming. The landscape around Andau is covered by a bed of iron-rich gravels that give together with the hot and dry climate in the region perfect conditions for wine production of high-quality wines. The Pannonian lizard covers the labels and stands for the sustainable farming of the winery as most of the vineyards can be found in and round a national park reserve. ZANTHO is the old Hungarian name for Andau from 1487.
