The Mill Store, Cafe & Visitor Centre
About
Nestled on the banks of the Avoca River in County Wicklow, the Avoca Village store, café and hand‑weaving mill are a living testament to Ireland’s rich textile heritage. Since 1723, the mill has produced the iconic Avoca throws, blankets and scarves that now grace homes worldwide. Visitors enter a bustling retail space showcasing fine fabrics, local fashion, homewares and the café’s hearty breakfasts and freshly baked sweets. The café’s garden terrace offers a perfect spot to soak up the riverside scenery. Behind the storefront is a fully‑guided mill tour – open from March to October every day at 10 am (last tour 3:30 pm) – where artisans demonstrate traditional weaving techniques on the ancient flying‑shuttle loom. The visitor centre is free to enter and provides an engaging narrative of the mill’s history, while the adjoining café and store cater to all ages. A 30‑minute visit comfortably covers the café, store browsing, and a single tour of the mill, making it an ideal stop for families, history enthusiasts and casual tourists alike.
