Castello di Aymavilles
About
Built on a hill at the mouth of the Cogne valley, the Aymavilles castle is easily recognizable for its elegant structure: four imposing circular towers, crowned by battlements, are placed at the corners of the central building, as if to protect it. The castle, whose origin dates back to the twelfth century, has undergone massive changes over the centuries, gradually abandoning its initial defensive function to transform itself in the eighteenth century into a refined stately home, surrounded by a large park. In 1970 the complex was sold to the regional administration, which carried out major restoration and renovation of the interiors and exteriors, thus highlighting the eighteenth-century characteristics of the residence, which anticipated the Rococo style in the Aosta Valley. Today the manor is presented with renewed splendor, strongly characterized by the double presence of imposing medieval towers and smooth eighteenth-century surfaces.
