Here, in 1475, Michelangelo was born. His father, Ludovico di Buonarroto Simoni, was one of the governors who were sent from the Republic of Florence, every six months, to Caprese. After the birth certificate of Michelangelo showed his birth to be in Caprese, in 1875 the Museum was founded inside the ancient Palazzo del Podestà, the house where he was born.
