La Miniera
About
EnglishLa Miniera lays on a terrace looking onto the Dora Baltea Valley, offering a different stay in an environment full of historic memories, in Piedmont’s Canavese, few kms from the Aosta Valley and TorinoOur 40 hectares farm embraces the land of a former ancient iron ore mine, now completely disused. Nineteenth century buildings, once bound with the minerary production are now surrounded by meadows, gardens, fruit and vegetable orchards. Behind the buildings are green and woody hills, rich in minerary ruins, which lead to the old village of Brosso and to the mountain through a napoleonic mule track. Guests can stay a while in the former director’s house: a lovely villa with three rooms, each with bathroom. A wide kitchen is available for longer stays too. There is also a small romantic cottage near to the red stream coming out from one of the mine’s mouths. All the rooms, light and airy, furnished with old fashioned “grandmother furniture”,vary in size and in bed’s number. All around the green of gardens and woods, with their paths and small white roads, allows a quiet and relaxing break, perfect for gardening lovers and woodland walkers, and for those interested in simple walks, trekking, mountain biking, paragliding or winter sports. Guests looking for more historical, archaeological and cultural attractions or gourmands researching good foods and wines may find never-ending surprises. La Miniera prepares on sundays and festivities a rich amount of recipes of the Jewish-Italian tradition and of the Piedmonts tradition, all of them cooked with its own fruits, fresh eggs, vegetables and aromatics and with locally produced meat and cheese. A kosher halavì or vegetarian meal can be served on request. Preserves and jams are made with blueberries, figs, quince, raspberries, rhubarb, redberries, kiwi fruit, elderberries, wild peaches and chestnuts… During autumn, the woods give many kinds of wild mushrooms. It is possible to prepare wedding banquets here and to host meetings and small congresses in two large halls, in which are the ancient mine's maps.La Miniera is at the end of Via delle Miniere, surrounded by woods, upon the village of Calea, group of houses belonging to Lessolo, 8 km from Ivrea, 50km from Turin, 130km from Milan, 70km from Aosta and from Monte Bianco Tunnel.HOW TO GET HERE BY CAR: From the north, at Aosta take the A5 highway, exit at Quincinetto, follow direction to Tavagnasco, Quassolo, and Baio Dora.
