About

Lake Iseo (Lago d’Iseo) is a picturesque alpine lake tucked in the foothills of the Italian Alps, straddling the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo in the Lombardy region. Covering 65.3 km² and rising to an elevation of 185 m, the lake is the fourth‑largest in Lombardy and is surrounded by lush green mountains that give it a striking natural backdrop. The shoreline is dotted with charming medieval towns—most notably Iseo, Sarnico, and Lovere—that offer a taste of traditional Italian life. In the centre of the lake lies the largest island, Montisola, which hosts the quiet village of San Paolo and a network of scenic walking paths. Two smaller islands, Loreto and San Paolo, add to the island mosaic and are popular stops for day‑trippers. Lake Iseo is also a living museum of natural heritage. Since 2018, the northern part of the lake, known as Alto Sebino, has been incorporated into the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve “Valle Camonica – Alto Sebino.” The lake offers pristine waters for boating, fishing, and picnicking, while year‑round ferries shuttle visitors between the towns and islands, providing convenient access for all ages.
