Almonds,visciole and chocolate!these are the three magic ingredients of the 'Pasticceria Macioce'(the Macioce family pastry shop)whose history is related to the importance of nougat torroni covered with dark chocolate.Torroni is an Italian specialty which even went into Space with the Eneide Mission,as dessert for astronauts. Alvito,which is home to this special torroni,is a medieval duchy,half way betwen Rome and Naples,on the Pre-Apennines mountain range in a valley in southern Latium.In the early 1900s this delicious torroni found a brilliant interpeter in the pastry chef Vittorio Macioce.After Vittorio had worked in the famous pastry shop,Latour which Made chocolate sweets for the Royal Family,he decided to go back to Alvito and create a new torrone covered with chocolate. Today his niece,Paola Macioce and her Family continue the tradition of Uncle Vittorio's pastry shop.Paola has olso brought back holiday favorites such as Chritsmas cookies:'susamelli','rococo' and 'mostaccioli'
