Aci Trezza
About
Aci Trezza is a picturesque coastal town nestled on the Ionian Sea just ten kilometres north of Catania, Sicily. The village is famous for its dramatic sea stacks – the so‑called “Isle of the Cyclops” – which rise like ancient pillars from the shoreline and are said to have been cast by the mythic Cyclops to stop Odysseus. With the imposing Mount Etna looming in the distance, the area offers a unique combination of volcanic beauty and Mediterranean charm. In the summer, Aci Trezza attracts Italian vacationers with its clear waters, shallow coves and family‑friendly beach settings. Each year, the annual Festa di San Giovanni brings the community together for music, food and fireworks during the last week of June. Beyond its natural allure, the town pays homage to its literary heritage. The iconic Italian novel *I Malavoglia* by Giovanni Verga is set here, and a small museum dedicated to Luchino Visconti’s 1948 film *La Terra Trema* – a landmark of Italian neorealism – sits just a short walk from the waterfront. Visitors can stroll through the museum, meet actors who originally portrayed the characters, and learn how the local village inspired one of cinema’s most revered works.
