La Scarzuola
About
Lascarzuola is an extraordinary architectural complex in the Umbria region of central Italy, located in the hamlet of Montegiove within the municipality of Montegabbione. Created by visionary architect Tomaso Buzzi in the mid‑20th century, the site was developed from the ruins of an old Franciscan convent into a surreal, utopian city composed of seven theaters, a miniature city, the Acropoli, and countless symbolic sculptures. Visitors wander through labyrinthine courtyards and theaters that blend medieval ruins with contemporary sculpture, experiencing a mix of art, history and mysticism. The complex is open daily, and a typical visit takes about an hour to explore.
