Castello di Santa Severina stands proudly on the highest hill of the town, covering more than 10,000 m² of historical grandeur. Originally a Byzantine “kastron”, it has survived the assaults of Normans, Swabians, and Angioini, each layer adding a new chapter to its storied past. A 1991‑1998 restoration revealed the castle’s complex architecture, making it one of the most well‑preserved medieval fortresses in southern Italy. Inside the walls the visitor can explore a range of museums: an archaeological collection, a weapons exhibit, a costume gallery, and contemporary art displays. The castle also hosts the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, one of Calabria’s most important religious collections, featuring church relics, paintings, and rare manuscripts.
