Castello Scaligero
About
Nestled on the southern tip of Lake Garda, Castello Scaligero is a soaring medieval fortress that has stood guard over Sirmione for centuries. Built in the late 14th century by the powerful Della Scala family of Verona, the castle served as a strategic military stronghold before passing into the hands of the Venetian Republic. In the 20th century it was repurposed as a museum and today welcomes thousands of visitors each year. Inside, a series of richly decorated chambers, a reconstructed 14th‑century galley dock, and the emblazoned floor of the Throne Chamber give guests a vivid glimpse into feudal life. From the castle’s upper levels, sweeping vistas of Lake Garda and the surrounding hills create an unforgettable backdrop for history lovers and photographers alike.
