About
Not your usual soccer game, this rough and ready match dates back to the 16th century and is held in a sand-filled piazza in front of the the Santa Croce church. Players wear Medieval-style costumes and can punch, kick, and elbow their way toward to the goal. The match is played on the feast day of Florence’s patron saint, Saint John the Baptist.
