Volognano Castle it was built in a dominant position on a slope overlooking the surrounding countryside, with this advantageous location being used as an observation and defense position since the Longobard Age. The Castle has hosted illustrious people from the time of Dante and Petrarca, and in more recently times with Giocchino Rossini, Giosuè Carducci and Enrico fermi. The Castle has been carefully restored and offers the possibility of a suggestive stay in surroundings and an atmosphere from other times. The castle is furnished with antique furniture, some of which are of notable value, in perfect harmony with the style of the manor. Volognano Castle is to be found in the Florentine hills, very close to Florence and at a height of approximately 440m. It is possible to taste farm products grown in the Castle.This Medieval Castle not only produces wines (DOGC Chianti Colli Fiorentini, IGT), but also Grappa, Vinsanto, and Extra-vergin olive oil, and when visiting the old wine cellar, it is possible to see the museum of antique agricultural tools too. Although a number of introduced varieties have contributed to some excellent new wines in the past 30 years, wine production in Volognano remains firmly based on varieties of grape. This is an excellent opportunity not to only see this beautiful area close to Florence but also to taste these traditional Tuscan wines in their own territory and to learn about local history and customs.
